Bear’s best friend is dead. His old man wants to put him to ground.
He has bigger things on his mind than the pink-haired girl from the
gas station he never thought he’d see again.
Until her battered body is tossed onto his doorstep.
Keeping his promise to Thia means Bear has to be willing to risk everything, including his life...and what’s left of his heart.

LAWLESS is book THREE in the King Series and meant to be read after KING & TYRANT.
I would note, if the words "trigger warning" give you pause, you might want to pass on this one.
This is book 3 of a 9 book series; Start with my review for Book 1 here.
This is part one to Bear and Thia's story.
When Thia was about 11, she worked at a gas station part time. Someone came in and put a gun in her face. It was a member from Bear's motorcycle club (MC) the Beach Bastards.
Bear comes to her rescue and gives her a ring to keep (payment not to tell the cops); he also tells her to come see him if she's ever in trouble. The little girl becomes a little infatuated with him and remembers his offer.
When her life falls apart 7 years later, she runs to Bear to call in that favor. She goes to Bear's former MC, where they recognize the ring and rough her up to get back at Bear.
Bear is in a bad headspace after what happened at the end of Book 2, and has been drowning himself in booze since, but when the MC calls him he decides to just quickly help the girl to get her to go away.
What I liked:
- Bear is a very complex character going through a dark time; I like how well he is developed.
- Likewise, I like how strong Thia's character is.
- There's a touch of MC atmosphere.
- Bear is a sexy, badass biker, even if he isn't part of the MC anymore.
- Lots of action (both violence and steamy).
What I didn't like:
- Bear is very conscious of the age gap between himself and Thia so he is reserved about acting on his feelings for quite some time after they are reunited.
"I was already going to hell. Might as well enjoy the ride there."
"Because I’m not stopping at kissing. I’m not stopping until you’re mine in every f#cking way. I’ll try not to hurt you, but this is happening right f#cking now. I’m warning you that I want you so much, my version of gentle still might be really f#cking hard.”
Great book with very complex characters. There is a cliffhanger, and Bear & Thia's story continues in Book 4.
